  • User Research & User Journeys

  • Wireframes & Hi-Fi Prototypes

  • Augmented Reality Integration & Application

JimMate is a speculative AI-driven gym workout and fitness application targeted towards both gym beginners and long-term gym-goers. Since the app involves synchronicity with physical gym spaces, it is also designed for the B2B target markets of gym franchises and gym machine manufacturers, who will use the AI software to sell their services and products respectively. Using advanced augmented reality (AR) technology, JimMate provides users with personalised health tips, training regimes and recommended workout routines.

Problem Space: Physical health and fitness have been increasingly prioritised over the years, particularly since Australia has seen an 8.8% increase in gym memberships nationwide (Gitnux, 2023). Despite this, there has been a growing trend of anxiety amongst gym beginners and existing gym-goers alike. In fact, the Gitnux Market Data Report 2023 revealed that 48% of gym-goers feel intimidated or uncomfortable at the gym.

So, given how fitness and gymming are such daunting experiences for many people, how can our team provide an educational AR platform for both new and existing gym users which promotes correct form and targeted muscle exercises, ensuring that they feel more confident exercising in public?

Features & Solutions: JimMate utilises an AI avatar as a virtual gym coach and fitness instructor, enabling users to feel more at-ease exercising at the gym. Upon using the app’s QR Code Scanner to read the sticker plastered onto the gym’s machines and equipment, users are able to closely follow the ‘Jim’ virtual avatar coach’s movements as they exercise. Synced onto the gym machine’s projection sensor and motion camera, the app provides them with additional smart screen interactions and live feedback analysis through real-time comments and helpful tips.

Furthermore, the app features unique 360-degree interactive video demonstrations of exercises, enabling users to correct their exercise forms (to avoid future injury and reduce poor fitness habits) and target specialised muscle groups. The users’ fitness / health metrics and body data are consolidated into the Dashboard’s data visualisation display, with the algorithm designed to recommend more personalised workouts to complement their routine.
